Hey there,
So I thought this might be the place to ask a question like this, I mean it can be something to aspire to if nothing else.. π
So, I’m currently finishing up the prep for the kids Christmas presents tomorrow and at the same time having a well deserved White Russian or two.
The question is: What you guys say is the best measures to use for this?
Currently I’m going with 50ml Vodka, 50ml Kahlua, and 50 half and half, some ice (a good amount) and then some chocolate sprinkles on the top.
Do you think 50ml of each is too much? Doesn’t seem to fill the glass ‘normally’ with less (gotta have some visual appeal right?), but that might be due to the size of the glass I suppose. π
Side note,
It was a bar in Edinburgh Scotland (called ‘Lebowskis’) that got me liking the chocolate sprinkles on top.
They also add coffee beans to one version, but if you’re a savage like me that doesn’t recognize them for what they are, that proceeds to eat them while having to keep a straight face while the guy that made it asks ‘So, do you like the cocktail?‘ while you reply ‘Yeah….it’s erm, great‘. That one isn’t so good.
Also, have a good Christmas folks (if you’re into Christmas that is).

Gosh, the recipe sounds very good to me! At the same time, I donβt do a very good job at specific measurements so I just put in *exactly* what I like. Some Smirnoff, some Kailua, and I use some plant based (vegan) creamer. Itβs a pretty cool sacrament but not very precise.

Hi Rev_Chris,
As I’d never had one until I visited that bar, when I first tried to make one at home I looked it up on the net, I think this was the link I used…

Expect, I put a sprinkle of grated Chocolate on the top. π

Heavy cream is usually the “official” White Russian, though as the name goes, it’s a very heavy drink. Milk is good for a lighter Russian, though usually too light in my opinion. My perfect balance is half ‘n half; it’s light enough to not upset the tummy yet heavy enough to cut down the harshness of the vodka and Kahlua. But try out a few recipes, man, and see what you like for yourself.

If you’re looking for a fun variation (also happens to be dairy free…)
Swap out the milk/cream/half & half for dark chocolate almond milk. I call it the “Muddy Russian”

That sounds good Joey! I use a dairy free half and half made by Ripple. I get it at Target.
