Recently I had the opportunity to hang with a few Dudes in a local bar/ steakhouse. I noticed the two younger folks in the group ordered Porterhouse steaks and top shelf alcohol . When I ordered a rib eye steak and a draft beer they chuckled. Finally, one made the comment , ” You only live once” and ordered another drink. When the check came, one of the young guys stated, ” I got this” and he pulled out his credit card. I pulled out my wallet and handed him cash for my dinner.
As we were walking to our ride , the young guy asked me why I didn’t let him buy my dinner. My explanation went like this, ” I ate my dinner, I paid for my dinner, now I can forget about it. You ate your dinner, you charged your dinner on your credit card, you’ll be thinking about it all month until you pay it off.”. I added, ” I’m 62 years old and I retired at 49, you’re what , 26? Between, credit card bills, car payments and any student loans, when do you plan on retiring? Stop signing for stuff and pay cash, life will be simpler “.

OBjaun…..While I respect a Dude for wanting to pay his way through this life. I myself would have allowed the young Dude to cover the tab. Some lessons are best learned the hard way. I would gladly share what I have with whomever sits at my table so I believe others should be allowed the freedom to give and share at said table.
Dudes that offer u money should be allowed the inner pleasure of giving freely of their abundance. Learning to receive graciously has been a long time coming for me. I learned this all from an elder Dude years ago and I have always needed to this teaching.
Hope this is still concidering Dudism as a state of Abiding there in…..
