I think for me it was in high school I reckon. I had a shitty Chevy Lumina which was comically flawed (but functional), was discovering cannabis, and had my Nintendo Wii peed on at a party which I then had to go on a misadventure to get compensated for…yeah

Honestly, must’ve been when I watched TBL for the fifth time or so. Gradually I realized the depths of the movie and eventually, one day, I just had the realization that I want to strive to be Dude. Zen, relaxed, just prioritizing enjoying my time here with my friends, not stressing out – just taking it easy.
Gonna have to skip on the ambiguous job situation, though. Gotta pay rent – I ain’t got a Marty to rely on.

I was 5 or 6; this was back in 1968 or 1969 San Diego California. My mother was a hair dresser, so my hair was always cute little boy, (please note sarcasm here), I begged my mother to let me grow my hair out and to take me to the Hippy Store. I was fascinated with lava lamps, tie dye art, incents, and black light art. In High school I discovered Hunter S. Thompson, and I leaned toward a free thinking non conformist attitude. Between 1982 and 2001 I really tried to embrace the normal expected existence of the Mom, Dad, 2.5 children, and white picket fence. I was never really happy, something was always eating at me. I watched The Big Lebowski in the theater back in 1998. It spoke to me, but it was just a movie. I don’t remember the exact date I found out about the Church of the Latter Day Dude. Dudeism, I loved the idea. 18 July 2011 I received my papers of ordination. Shortly after that my life went sideways, hard. I have lost almost everything. During this self imposed exile from society I have had time to reflect on what really matters. My inner dude has emerged. Or, I really have gone round the bend hahaha. So when did I know? All my life, I just could not put a name on it until 2010.

For me, I had a Google Alert set for free ordinations. 🙂
Later on (maybe a whole year later), I happened to take up Tai Chi and remembered seeing ‘The Dude De Ching‘ on the website, so ordered it for my instructor for a laugh.
Man, when it arrived I had a flick through it and thought, “woah, this is actually pretty interesting” (“That’s f*cking interesting man“), so I got myself one as well, little after that I starting taking it a little easier and gotta say, I was liking the feeling of a little less stress in my life.
Wierd you know, tried a while bunch of stuff to reduce stress over the last few years, but turns out that just ‘taking it easy’ seems to have helped the most. That might not make much sense to read though. 🙂
Since then, I’m working on being more ‘Dudelike’, so not sure I’m a Dude yet, but maybe someday……

For me it was in college. I decided that traditional religion wasn’t for me. I was into reiki (not that, pay $2000 to get anointed with the magical powers type. The whoa, this is crazy and works type) and I had read The Cosmic Serpent (great book, will try to write up a blurb for the knowledge section). I felt a connection to nature and the way energy seemed to flow from the plants around me into me and back out to the world around me. Yes, pot was heavily involved during this time. . I decided to start my own religion in 2010. I called it “Kenyonism” and I had a devote follower. We hashed out a bunch of the details and then I realized I was just re-creating Taoism. So I scrapped the whole starting a religion thing and started looking into Taoism. When I discovered Dudeism I was blown away. It was EXACTLY what I needed. I was ordained in 2011 and performed my first marriage in 2017. I’m all-in and proud of it.

[/quote]That’s awesome bud, turns out you were just like the dudes who created Taoism, you just didn’t know it. 😉

When I was a little kid, I think. I can remember floating in my uncle’s swimming pool, eyes closed, just listening to the whir sound of the motor, the water sloshing in a tinkle sound, and some robin chirping in the background. I can remember how nice it was. Like a warm bed with soft blankets in winter.
