I was born in 1987. I came of age as 9/11 happened. Then, I watched my older friends go to war. We were all told it was to defend freedom, and we were absolutely lied to. Our lives became more survieled under the guise of safety. We watched a political system market itself on “Hope and Change” only for bigotry to be the overt standard in many places around our nation. Houses became unaffordable, and jobs became more exploitative than ever. The internet became privatized, and we became the product for data brokers.
The younger ones were born into this world, and many of us are so jaded at the possibility of a better world being possible that we have not passed down that hope. Instead of teaching them to change things, maybe Abiding is the solution.
