I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m way more Walter than I am Dude. I’m getting better though. My outbursts are not as intense as they were before really diving into Dudeism. I found Dudeism back in 2011 and have been reading up on Taoism and the other Eastern things. I really dig what the Church of Latter-Day-Dude has to offer. The whole idea seems silly at first, but once you peel away that first layer and get the giggles out, you find a solid philosophy for life. The whole “Fuck it” attitude really does help.
At work, I’ve been too high strung. I’ve been spending too much time and energy trying to steer the office in the right direction; trying to make everyone see the way I believe it should be done. This is a very Walter thing to do: forcing others to your ideas. So I decided that I was going to just go with the flow and row, row, row, my boat gently down the stream MERRILY….and it has been a great experiment. I am happier and feel more like myself again.
There are times when I need to remind myself to be more Dude. I take a moment and think to myself, ‘I don’t need to be worried about this shit’ and step away from the situation.
What do you do to help balance your inner Walter and Dude?

You are equal parts Walter and Dude, and everything all at the same time (even though it sounds exhausting) There is no “getting better”….it just is…..

I kind of agree with the esteemed Dude above.
In my opinion Donny and Walter represent the two extremes in a person. Donny is far too passive, Walter is overly aggressive. The Dude being the middle ground that is not too angry or passive but a mixture of both in harmony that we should strive for. We are all sometimes too Walter or too Donny, but when we go with the flow and environment we are The Dude. I believe he represents an ideal to strive for. Maybe an unobtainable ideal but in the striving and the journey is the path to a more balanced life perhaps.
To answer your question, music helps me immensely in trying to regain my balance.

@videotoast, I get the concept. I just feel like, with everything, there is an ebb and flow to the balance. Certain aspects becoming more prevalent than others then subsiding. At the moment, my Walter is prevailing and in a couple months my Donny might be the dominating force. I’d love to be able to sit in the middle, the Dude state, but right now the rage comes too quickly and the calm is fleeting.
I agree with @abidingly. When we are on the correct path and flowing through life we are where we need to be.
It’s good to see conversations starting!

Trying to be as Dudely as possible is, paradoxically, un-Dudely itself. The more of a Dude you try to be, the more uptight you become while stressing about it.
My advice is to just let it flow. Recognize when you’re being uptight, but focus on why you’re being uptight. And sometimes, life is just a little fucked right now and it’ll be a little while til it’s un-fucked, and that’s okay too. Don’t worry about trying to be, and just be.
